We went to a Blue grass concert in Pasadena at the Pasadena Memorial Park on the 4th of July. It was fun, drinks, food, free concert and a good view of the fireworks at the Rose Bowl.
The quality of the video is bad, I tried using a stabilizing app but it didn’t turn out like they said it would.
We went for a drive this afternoon and ended up at Zuma Beach, it’s a public beach in Malibu. We got some beers at a local Vons and enjoyed the sunset.
One of the reasons we had to go back to Holland was to pick up our cats that were still in the old apartment. Moving to California with cats is pretty straightforward. Get your cats’ health checked about a week before you go and
that’s about it. We asked our Vet for a document stating they were healthy and took that along. We flew with KLM and notified them we we would be taking to cats. As it as a transatlantic flight the cats had to go into the hold. A few days before our flight we bought two carriers for them, and put these in the same room the cats sleep in, with a t-shirt I had worn inside (so the carrier has a familiar scent in it).
They day of the flight it all went fine. Got to the airport, checked the carriers in, dropped the carriers off at the customs desk from where they were taken to the airplane. After boarding I asked one of the flight attendants if the cats were onboard (you never know). They were, she told me they were on board with all the horses that were traveling as well. Horses? Yes there were about 6 horses on the plane as well. When we landed in Los Angeles half a day later I was told the carriers would make their way to the luggage belt at the arrivals hall. Someone would bring them down there. We made our way there and waited. But after half an hour still no cats, and I was worried. The people who assist at the luggage belt didn’t know anything either, and I got more worried. Then one of them got on a walkie-talkie and found out the cats were taken along with the horses to some depot near LAX, and 5 minutes later they were on their way back to were we were. After a longer wait of maybe 45 minutes they were finally where they were supposed to be. But in complete panic and huffing and puffing due to the warm California weather. We made our way through customs and sat down outside to give the cats a moment of rest.

The cats were particularly loud so quite a few people took a look at them and had a chat with us. Seemed like everyone has cats, and loved seeing them. The first Uber we requested didn’t show up, probably because of the comment we had cats. The second one that actually showed up almost left because he didn’t want cats in the car. But eventually took us anyway, back home to Hollywood.
It’s been busy the past couple of weeks. I went back to Amsterdam to tie up all loose ends. Emptied my old apartment, put everything I wanted to save in storage and donated the rest to the thrift store. Did all the other stuff that needs to be done like registering as an expat etc. And had the cats checked by the vets, bought kennels as they had to come on the plane back. Arranged all that with KLM. Of course that last thing didn’t go as planned at all and my two cats were lost for a while. I’ll put that online later today
