Great American Eclipse

On August 21 there was a solar eclipse in the US, in LA it wasn’t total unfortunately but still a once in a lifetime chance to experience from home. In preparation I ordered a special solar filter for my camera to be able to take photographs of this one time historic event.

LA is a big place and while searching for a good place to take photographs of the event I found an old Missile Control Site from the Cold War that was open to the public right in the middle of the Santa Monica Mountains. Once the last line of defense against Russians attacking LA and its extensive collection of aerospace contractors. Read this great article for more info.

On the day of the eclipse we went up there about two hours before the eclipse started to claim a spot. To my surprise it wasn’t too busy with people, and we secured a spot at a bench. In the end it was like a long eclipse picnic. It was a fun experience in all and below a timelapse of the eclipse taken with the filter.
